IRELAND’S OLDEST BREWING COMPANY BRINGS THE ANCIENT CRAFT OF BREWING BACK TO ITS RIGHTFUL HOME IN THE HEART OF KILKENNY CITY
Located in the heart of Kilkenny city, a newly established brewery stands as a beacon of the resurgence of Sullivan’s Brewing Company, Ireland’s oldest brewery, dating back to 1702. A visit to Sullivan’s Taproom offers a glimpse into its storied past, when it first emerged at The Maltings on James Street in Kilkenny. Passionate about bringing brewing back to the city of Kilkenny, Dan and Alan Smithwick along with direct descendants of the Sullivan family have worked since 2016 to make this a reality.
Tours are guided by passionate storytellers who share the fascinating journey of Sullivan’s Brewery from the 18th century to its present day revival. Hear tales of local politics, fire, lost horse bets, and love stories. Sample the core range of beers noting the different profiles, aromas, flavours and textures. See first-hand the brewing process in action while gaining insights into the ancient craft of brewing.
A well-groomed beer garden facing the brewery with group friendly seating compliments the experience along with a great menu of hand stretched pizzas, locally reared beef burgers and wings. Hosting live music 4 days a week, Sullivans Taproom is a go to for locals and visitors alike.
